Leadership here in New Jersey has to continually assess the broadest scope across local and regional businesses and organizations, as we head more deeply into 2014. Broad perspective is integral to both opportunity and success. It allows teams to assess every alternative and examine every suggestion before solving problems or making decisions.
Growth is critical for each and every team member, and everyone must be involved in the day-to-day activities; but employee engagement also means a high degree of accountability and responsibility. It takes a “big picture” management style to get the most from each and every employee.
Direction is very important, and utilizing the leadership strategies of employee engagement and involvement can make a big difference in goal achievement. With a continuous emphasis on goals and objectives, management can better understand the strengths and weaknesses of every individual. Empowerment is driven by this collective assessment; planning and process can be adjusted based on this core value of shared focus.
The Carnegie Principles play a major role in managing this whole picture environment. Setting clear goals, and treating everyone as a partner for progress, allows a degree of leeway to complete complicated tasks through trial and error. Good communication is always a key factor for purpose and problem solving.
Consensus is very important in today’s challenging business environment. Giving people a role in defining priorities allows each of to better understand the importance of cooperation and interaction.
Every year, there is more and more emphasis on nonstop change. With the economic focus on cost effectiveness and competition, maintaining collective creativity is a big task for management. Giving responsibility to the ranks and decentralizing authority to make things happen are important ingredients to success.
Opportunities develop and challenges are overcome when everyone has an equal role in growth and progress. Organizations that take full advantage of their human capital, are the ones who will be around in 2014 and beyond.
