No Best Buy Stores to Close in New Jersey
Best Buy announced that of the 42 stores that they will be closing, all New Jersey store locations are safe. The Minnesota-based company announced back on March 29th that it would have to close 50 of its United States big box stores and lay off 400 employees at the corporate and support levels. Newark Mayor Deemed Hero After Fire Rescue
On his way home from an interview last Thursday evening, Mayor Cory Booker and members of his police security detail noticed flames coming from the second floor windows of the two-story apartment building adjacent to his home. Booker and members of his detail rushed into the home to help get residents out, including a man attempting to battle the fire with buckets of water. Despite the attempts of Booker’s security detail to keep him from re-entering the building, Booker re-entered the burning building when he heard the cries of 47-year-old Zina Hodge coming from the second floor. He spent two to three minutes and came out carrying Hodge to safety. Hodge was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston where she is being treated for burns and is listed in serious condition, but is expected to survive. >>READ MORE
Slain South Brunswick Pastor’s Wife Pleads for Killer’s Identity
Michelle Hughes pleaded for anyone who may know the identity of her husband, Pastor Donald Hughes’, killer to step forward. The pastor of Bethlehem Judah Christian Fellowship in Elizabeth was leading a congregation in South Brunswick that was preparing to move to New Brunswick was gunned down in Newark on Good Friday as he was unloading groceries meant for his family on Easter Sunday. A female relative was accosted by the gunman and in an attempt to rescue her, Hughes was shot dead. “Somebody knows what happened. Somebody knows the truth. We can no longer house this criminal. He has to come out,” she said before a gathering of some 20 pastors, just like her husband, surrounded her at the pulpit of Paradise Baptist Church in Newark on Thursday. >>READ MORE
“Freecycling” in April
Freecycling is an event where you can donate and recycle just about anything. From old tables, chairs, lawn mowers, furniture and anything else that you have been wanting to get rid of but not sure what to do with. This event is sponsored by the East Brunswick Friends of the Environment Commission, who will take everything left over at the end of the day and recycle it, with a portion of the profits donated to the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission.
